1. Melina's Tavern - Akrotiri
Eating to the sound of the waves and the breeze of the sea, Melina’s Tavern is a place so close by the water that the only thing separating you from the water is a low-sized wall and maybe some pebble stones on the shore. Truly, that is a heavenly moment to sit and eat their renowned fresh fish or, if you like me don’t eat any seafood, go for other food the Greek cuisine has to offer. Melina’s Tavern is located in Akrotiri in between the archaeological site and the Red Beach, so optimal for either a lunch break after some historical sightseeing or a dinner after a long day at the beach. This one should be on your list about places to eat in Santorini.
2. Theofanis - Akrotiri
Another amazing Tavern in Akrotiri is the Theofanis Tavern, actually very close to the hotel Adamastos that I can recommended if you are searching for a hotel in Santorini. Theofanis is situated in the very center of the Akrotiri village where it has been located and been serving dishes for 30 years now as a family business. The Tavern provides a magnificent view over Akrotiri and the rest of the island in an atmosphere so cozy and comfortable. The menu provides traditional Greek and Santorini delicacies and I dare say that there is something for everyone on the menu.
3. Sunsets - Oia
When you travel to Santorini make sure to visit Oia at least once. And when you go there you might as well enjoy a lovely meal while watching the famous sunset. For that occasion, we chose the Sunsets Bar Restaurant which was an amazing experience, not only the sunset but also the delicious food, nice wine and the fantastic service. I strongly recommend you though to make a reservation in advance because it will simply be impossible to get a spot on basically any restaurant if you haven’t booked a table in advance. It can get a little crowded in front of the restaurant since everyone comes for the same reason – the famous sunset, but the restaurant is on a higher level than the street and you can also opt for a place on the rooftop.
4. Franco's - Pyrgos
With the city Pyrgos being the highest point on the whole island, you can even top that by visiting Franco’s Café providing THE best view of the city and probably the whole island. On the very top of the city you can find Franco’s Café located in the historical setting of the old Venetian Castle. From here you can watch glorious sunsets, slurp some milkshakes, cocktails or whatever you are into, have some snacks or a delicious lunch. It’s quite an adventurous walk to get the top but I promise you it’s worth every drop of sweat and tears.
5. Prince - Kamari
Even though the restaurant Prince is somewhat simple and a beach restaurant like many others on the promenade of Kamari beach, it differs itself from the others with the very delicious food, a lovely atmosphere and a good service. Prince is situated in the very center of one of the famous beaches of Santorini – the Kamari beach overlooking the Aegean Sea. I think it’s fair to call it the perfect location when it’s located right down to the beach. Whenever you should come around Kamari, make sure to head to Kamari’s best restaurant.
The Mediterranean is so breathtaking!
Greece is the first destination on my bucket list. I'm hoping for my 20th wedding anniversary, and with those recommendations, I'll know where to go for good food. Thank you for sharing.
